Wer gerne mal bei einer Nobel-Preisverleihung dabeisein möchte , kann ja mal versuchen Karten dafür zu bekommen. Wer vorher schonmal einen Bericht darüber lesen möchte, kann das jetzt tun. Der Bericht stammt von einer Freundin die sich wie ich für ein Jahr in Bergen aufhällt. Eigentlich kommt sie aus Alaska. Einige kleine Auszüge: (kurze Erinnerung: der diesjährige Friedens-Nobel-Preis wurde an das International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) und Al Gore verliehen)
"If shortages of and dramatic changes in the stuff upon which our survival is based - of land, food, water and clean air - are not at the root of conflict, then what is?"
Ebenso interessant finde folgende "Pilgerfahrt" auf die am Ende des Berichtes hingewiesen wird. Weitere Erklärungen finden sich in folgendem Essay. Für alle die auch hier zu faul sind, alles zu lesen sei auch hier kurz zitiert:
"As I left Town Hall, I heard some elegantly clad Norwegian ladies joking uncomfortably about the airplane flights they would be taking on their way home, and I headed off to find my own carbon emitting mode of transportation back to Bergen."
So, I took an online ‘carbon footprint’ survey. I thought I would do relatively well. After all, I drive a hybrid car. I live in a modest-sized house. I recycle. I think of myself as careful in my use of energy. But I was shocked to discover that my personal carbon footprint is more than double the national average, and five times that of the average European. How could this be?
The answer was revealing. In my work as a meditation teacher, I travel a lot every year to teach. This is a privilege, and not one I take lightly. A single cross-country flight uses my personal quota for carbon emissions for an entire year. When I removed that single factor from the formula, my carbon footprint shrank to well below average, where I had hoped it would be.
